Guardianship Assessment Legislative Change: A Comprehensive Response

On the 29th October, 2014, the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 was amended. Among the many amendments is the introduction to a new order for children in need of Care and Protection. The Guardianship Order, allows carers or significant others the opportunity to become the child’s Guardian. To assess the Potential Guardian’s (PG) capacity to care for the child until 18 years of age, a Guardianship Assessment is completed.
